We are in Vaison la Romaine in a hotel at the top of the old city. It’s a lovely old place, very upscale with a pool hanging out on a precipice overlooking the valley. The room we have is quite nice as well -- on the fourth floor, no elevator (just like home!) To see it: http://www.le-beffroi.com/anglais.htm
Today is Weight Watchers weigh-in, so Brad is delaying his trip to the top of Mt. Ventoux for a day so he can go with me. It’s 24K away from here, so it sort of chews into the day. He will do Mt. Ventoux tomorrow. For those of you who don’t know the significance of this, it’s almost always featured in the Tour de France and is sort of the pinnacle (pun intended) for serious cyclists. It’s also unbelievably difficult and several of the riders (young, active, in-shape kids) were dreading it at breakfast this morning. Not Brad. He did it two days in a row the last time he was in this part of France and he can hardly wait to do it again.
We had our first experience with a difficult person last night. Loud, demanding, hard-to-please. Rude. A French person? Not on your life. Another American, I’m sorry to say. Very embarrassing for the rest of us.
More later...after weigh-in. Don’t hold your breath though. I swore I wouldn’t have any croissants for breakfast this morning, but before I knew it, two of them flew into my mouth!
