I learned something today. Actually, I probably learned a gazillion things today, but this one stands out. Lake Geneva -- the one you always see in photos with the fountain shooting about 1000 feet in the air -- isn't Lake Geneva at all. It's "Lac Léman." So there. Now you've learned something, too.
Nice day. I got lost about four times, but it didn't bother me at all. My attitude when driving in France (or anywhere, really -- as long as I'm not on a deadline) is, "I'm lost? Who cares! I'll be found eventually." And so far I have been.
Today, while driving aimlessly around Geneva just "looking" and observing that people drive stupidly in every country and not just the U.S., I got lost and ended up at the top of a mountain in a town called Nyon. It was lunchtime, so I found an umbrella table in the middle of the town square and had a delicious sandwich made with, naturally, fresh French bread. Yum! From my table, without even turning my head, I could see a castle 100 yards in front of me, about 100 sailboats out on Lake Geneva, er, "Lac Léman," and a 100 year-old couple* strolling across the plaza. It was, in a word, idyllic.
Brad lost a tooth tonight. A big gold one (who knew he had gold teeth!) in the back of his head, well, his mouth. It told me after dinner that it was loose, and I cautioned him to not wiggle it because maybe it would last 'til we got home. This caused him to rip it right out of his mouth -- without any pain, apparently (or maybe he just doesn't feel pain. He is German, after all) and showed it to me like he made it in art class. Honestly, it looks about the size of a ping pong ball, so naturally I exclaimed, not to subtly, "We're rich!" He looked at me with that oh-so-dry look, and said, simply, "Yes. I see a SmartCar in your future."
"A 'SmartCar'!" I said. "Well, OK...but I'll put all of my teeth out for a Lexus!"
Sweet dreams, dear American friends and family...from the land of cheese, chocolates, and golden teeth...

*I assume they were a 100 years old; for all I know, they may just be 50 years old and showing the results of spending too much time in the sun. I also assumed they were a couple; but they may have just been shacking up.
I hope you have lots of ADVENTURES...not be be confused with getting lost. So, how many points was your lunch today???
ReplyDeleteHey, I need a new car, I would like a Subaru, how many more gold teeth can Brad spare?
Enjoy you next few days!!!!!!!
You didn't know Lake Geneva is also called Lac Léman?!?! Everybody knows this. Everybody with access to Wikipedia, I mean.
ReplyDeleteIf you had gone just a little bit past Nyon to Prangins you would have been in the town where Lisa and Todd lived for 4 years. Cute little village with a chateau.

The thought of Brad pulling a tooth out of his mouth WITH NOTHING TO SEDATE HIM and then showing it to you is enough to make me no longer hungry for breakfast.
ReplyDeleteWow. I think I'll be losing weight just by re-reading that section of your post. So thanks!
I personally identified with your notes about being lost (and subsequently found) I have noted this phenomenon while driving all over Italy...of course I speak the language ;-)
